Barbara H. Fiese, Ph.D., is psychology professor and department
chair at Syracuse University. She is director of the Family
Research Lab and associate editor of the Journal of Pediatric
Psychology. Her research focuses on family factors that promote
well-being and reduce anxiety in pediatric chronic illness.
She studies family routines, rituals, and stories, and has
written about family stories and the life course.
With support from the National Institute of Health and various
private foundations, she works with undergraduates, graduate
students and colleagues across the country to identify family
factors associated with academic achievement, identity, and
mental health.
She received a doctorate in clinical and developmental psychology
from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her master’s
degree is in experimental psychology from Villanova University.
She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New
York.
DIRECTIONS TO THE MARIAL CENTER
The MARIAL Center is located on the 4th floor of
the main building of Emory's Briarcliff Campus, 1256 Briarcliff
Road. There is ample parking close to the building. Alternatively,
you may take the Emory shuttle (Route A). The Emory shuttle (Route
A) provides transportation from the main campus to the MARIAL
Center every 20 minutes (a 5-10 minute ride). For the shortest
travel time, board the shuttle in front of the B. Jones Center
or at the corner of Dowman and Fishburne (across from Glenn Memorial)
at approximately 4, 24, and 44 minutes after each hour. A complete
