The Next Chapter: Analyzing the Post-Iraq Readjustment of
Veterans and Their Families
Wednesday, March 26, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m
MARIAL Graduate Fellow Erin Finley will report on the status of dissertation research-in-progress. In fifteen months of fieldwork in
San Antonio, Texas, Finley has investigated experiences of post-deployment stress and PTSD among veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as seen through the eyes of veterans and family members, as well as mental health clinicians and other local service providers. As data collection comes to a close and data analysis begins, Finley will report on preliminary findings and discuss strategies for data analysis moving forward, paying particular attention to the role of white and Latino ethnicities, injury and other health problems, and notions of family and masculinity in the negotiation of "next chapters" - the creation of post-military lives by individual veterans and their families. This will be an informal workshop.
