Food and the American Family

(Panel Discussion)

Wednesday, December 13, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m

White Hall Room 100

Food is on the table like never before. What we eat, when we eat and where it comes from seems never to have been so important. This panel brings together academics and industry for a conversation to nourish the soul. Marshall Duke is an Emory psychologist and expert on the importance of family mealtimes; Flo Gentry is head of Decatur Super Suppers, a national food franchise where busy parents go to assemble their families’ weekly meals in one visit; and Julie Shaffer is an executive at Edible Atlanta, a community-based magazine aimed at connecting local food producers with Atlantans increasingly concerned about what they are feeding their families. Peggy Barlett, who will chair the discussion, is an Emory anthropologist who has long been interested in sustainable agriculture, and has been active at Emory in the Faculty Green Lunch Group, the Ad Hoc Committee for Environmental Stewardship.
