The Emory Center on Myth and Ritual in American Life (the MARIAL
Center), funded by the Sloan Foundation, focuses its research
on
the functions and significance of ritual, narrative, and myth in
dual wage-earner middle class families in the American South.
Each
year the Center funds several undergraduate research projects,
in support of outstanding Emory seniors working on their senior
theses.
Each Sloan/MARIAL undergraduate fellow is eligible for up to $1500.00
in Center funding, in support of research, travel, and production
costs associated with the thesis. The undergraduate fellows --
who are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the
Center
during the 2005-06 academic year-- have the opportunity to develop
close working relationships with the Center's faculty, postdoctoral
fellows and graduate student affiliates.
We ask that you certify that your advisee or student is working
on a senior thesis and that you give us your frank assessment of
his or her capabilities. For more information on the Center's major
research interests, please
